1. Using Alice as your point of comparison, discuss the genre of children's literature versus adult literature. What divides them? IS there a division? What's the division in the film world? The animated Disney film was clearly meant to be a kid's film, which would coincidentally also appeal to adults. But the Burton film seems to have been shooting for a wide audience. Would you consider it a kid's film?
2. Discuss Alice's relationship with one other character. Choose any. What is the dynamic between them? What does she bring out in that character and vice-versa? What does that character represent?
3. Write about the queens in both books.
4. Write about the Mad Hatter in Adventures in Wonderland and in each movie. What does he represent? What is his relationship with Alice? How is he portrayed differently in the films, and what does that say about the director's interpretation of him?
5. There are other minor adaptations of Alice out there. Some made-for-tv movies, for example. Lots of others. Chose one and discuss it as part of the wider cultural reception of the Alice stories. How does it interpret Carroll's book?
